Update On Harris Neck Sacred Site

According to the lady who was the past head of the Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge, the area called Harris Neck was SOLD to the federal government by the white and African American farmers of that area. The dispute is that the descendants of the African American farmers are saying that their ancestors were given less for the land than the white farmers. Their problem is that the area that they were given and sold to the federal government does not seem, at this time, due to new testimony, to include the Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge where the Indigenous Burials and Ancient Village Sites are. To this day the African American leadership that are part of the Harris Neck Land Recovery group deny there are any burials other than three African American burials
or any ancient village sites, despite the federal archaeologist's and the ex-state archaeologist and other reputable archaeologist's evidence and testimony. It has been suggested that the African Americans involved in this dispute just get the money that they felt was owed them with interest instead of destroying this very valuable site. So far that idea has been rejected by their leadership. But as the federal archaeologist has pointed out, EVERY and I mean every federally recognized Native American would have to say okay to this being returned to them. But the real facts are the land was bought from the African American's ancestors. And it was taken from Indigenous People, not bought, and given to them with the ancestor's burials and ancient village sites on it. If you have any questions, the Harris Neck Wildlife refuge number is 912 832 4508. Refer to archaeological sites: 9Mc41 (formerly UGA McI41 and 9McI51), 9Mc52 (formally UGA 9McI 42), 9Mc53 (formally UGA 9 McI 43- large Native American Village), 9 Mc56 (formally UGA 9 McI 46- Large Native American Village), 9 Mc 310, 9 Mc 311, 9 Mc 312, 9 Mc 313, Mc-257, Mc 258 This is just a few and not a complete list. But you can see the site numbers are numerous.  The federal archaeologist's name is Mr. Kanaski, a very nice man, who wants to obey the NAGPRA according to section 106 laws. It's kinda refreshing to have the government on our side.
We are not trying to offend ANY African Americans or their struggles. We usually support them. But this is a VERY different situation.
