The Cherokee Nation will host a ceremony to pay special tribute to our veterans. This will be a time to honor those who have given their lives to protect our country and Nation. Native American artists who want to learn about the business side of art will have a great opportunity to do so this November when the Cherokee Nation hosts Art Marketing and Professional Development: A Comprehensive Training Session for Native Artist Entrepreneurs on Nov. 13 -14, at the Best Western Motel in Locust Grove. Sequoyah Cheerleader is First to Make All-Region: 11/6/2009 3:45:00 PM

Symone Ross likes to be first. She was the first born, the first in the family to attend school at Sequoyah and now she’s the first Sequoyah cheerleader to be named an all-region cheerleader. Ross, the captain of the Sequoyah cheerleading squad, tried out against 50 other high school seniors to earn one of 16 spots on the All-Region squad.

Sequoyah Standout Accepts Offer to Play Division One Basketball: 11/6/2009 3:15:00 PM

Macon, Georgia will soon be the home of another one of Sequoyah Schools’ best basketball players. Lindsey Hammer recently verbally committed to play college basketball for the Mercer Lady Bears. Hammer’s older sister, Lorin, a 2008 Sequoyah graduate and Gates Millennium Scholarship winner, already dons a Mercer uniform as a guard for the Mercer women’s basketball team. Next year, her younger sister will follow in her footsteps.

For the eighth year in a row, the Cherokee Nation has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report.

Cherokee Nation, County Health Department Offering H1N1 Vaccine: 11/3/2009

As part of a joint partnership, the Cherokee Nation and the Cherokee County Health Department will be offering an H1N1 Flu Vaccine clinic on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Cherokee County Health Department East Building, located at 912 S. College
Avenue in Tahlequah.

Sequoyah Cross Country, State Runner-Up: 11/2/2009 4:51:00 PM

The Sequoyah boys cross country team recently “ran” away with the Oklahoma Class 3A state runner-up position. Until the state meet, the team had gone undefeated for the entire season, earning the regional championship.

Cherokee Nation Selected As Accreditation Test Site: 10/30/2009 4:20:00 PM

The Cherokee Nation has been selected as one of only 30 public health departments that will participate in a test of a national voluntary public health accreditation program to be licensed through the Public Health Accreditation Board.
