This is Sharon, Dave's wife. I founded the Save the Sacred Sites Alliance. Dave is the Co-founder. Previous to this event, I have been in Burial protection for over 40 years. To our organization, it does not matter who is buried, all burials need to be protected.
I will attempt to shorten all the information on this site. Also, this is just the beginning as the Savannah Port will extend into S.C. and down the East coast to Fl.
The first application was dated 6-10-2009. Application #200800733 . The Applicant is the Ga. Ports Authority.This application, at first glance, reads as if it is just for gates. However, further examination of the application will reveal 30 acres, including wetlands and burial sites. A gate to them is parking,screening,many lanes and over 3,000 trucks a day in and out. Under Cultural Resources Assessments they usually list them as "unknown." The "Consideration of Public Comments" may or may not include contact with Native American Tribes. If this is in the application this really means they need to contact but probably will not. As far as the owner of the project, it is the Port Authority. Why then would they stop themselves? Garden City Terminal size is over 1,100 acres. It is the 4th largest container port in the U.S. and Largest single-terminal in North America.

The second Application on 8-11-2010 are the following numbers: SAS201000530,00531,00532,005533,005534.
This is where the additional problems continue on down the coast and wetlands and burials are again in danger. This time the name they will use is berths.
Again they use the "unknown and maybe present" wording. This means there are burials. Because these applications also will endanger the manatees they go into great depth talking about the laws that they "may follow" to try and protect them. The laws concerning the burials are both Ga. law and Federal (section 106-under N.A.G.P.R.A.). The contact person for these applications is the same person but at phone number
