10 Outrageous Claims
As the House debate heated up, so did the hyperbole.
We already knew that climate action opponents were, shall we say, special.
They've spent years denying the reality of global warming and doing everything possible to delay action. But, last week's floor debate put their tortured reasoning in the Congressional Record.
We've compiled 10 of the most outrageous comments from the floor last week.
Yes, they're bizarre. But, it's important to keep in mind that we are very likely to see much more of this as the bill moves to the Senate.
10 Outrageous Claims
10) "Wake up, America. There hasn't been any global warming, which is what we heard over and over and over again – there hasn't been any global warming for 10 years." – Rep. Dana Rohrabacker (R-CA)
No warming for 10 years? Well, not exactly true. 1998 was the 2nd hottest year on record while 2008 was only the 8th hottest. So, if you only look at those two years, you might assume there hasn't been any warming. But, 2005 was the hottest year on record and the warmest decade on record is 1998 through 2008. The trends are clear. The planet is warming. Period.
9) "You want to talk about a massive new welfare program for energy? It's in here too… It's a whole new welfare program for energy." – Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR)
If you want to talk welfare, what about the hundreds of billions the oil, gas and coal industries have received in subsidies and tax breaks over the years?
8) "God has put us on this Earth as responsible stewards of these resources, and we ought to use them responsibly. This bill does not do it. In fact, it does nothing good. The only meaningful thing that it might do is provide a relatively meaningless photo op for our President in December in Copenhagen as he stands to brag about what America has done while the leaders of India and China laugh at us behind his back." – Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX)
We look forward to working with Rep. Conaway to strengthen this bill and to fight for the strongest possible international global warming treaty later this year.
7) "Energy producing states like Oklahoma will be economically punished and devastated." – Rep Tom Cole (R-OK)
Rep. Cole should have a look at climate models showing that Oklahoma could spend nearly the entire summer with 100+ temperatures by the end of the century. Talk about devastating.
6) "We should not be the first lemming to jump off the cliff." – Rep. Doc Hasting (R-WA)
That's an interesting point given that the U.S. is the only industrial country in the world that never ratified the Kyoto global warming treaty and that much of Europe is operating under a carbon cap right now.
5) "[For some, this bill is an] economic death sentence." – Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA)
As opposed to the current economy in which we are held hostage by our reliance on foreign oil and in which only last summer we saw gas prices exceed $4/gallon.
4) "The whole point of cap-and-trade is to make fossil fuels, or 85 percent of the energy we consume, more expensive." – Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-PA)
No, the point of this bill is to cap global warming pollution, put Americans back to work building out our clean energy future, and free us from our dangerous dependence on foreign oil.
3) "Do you want to throw away the economic prosperity for nothing, because that's what this bill does. And for what, to satisfy the twisted desires of radical environmentalists." – Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA)
With millions of Americans out of work and the economy in recession, it might not be the best time to talk about "throwing away our economic prosperity" or to support the status quo.
2) "[This will bring us back to] hunting and gathering." – Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI)
Yeah, when we look at solar panels, hybrids and windmills, that's exactly what comes to mind – hunting and gathering societies.
1) "The idea of human induced global climate change is one of the greatest hoaxes perpetrated out of the scientific community. It is a hoax… We need to be good stewards of our environment, but this is not it, it’s a hoax!" – Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA)
A global conspiracy involving thousands of scientists taking tens of thousands of measurements on everything ranging from ice core samples to the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere to sea level rise, hundreds of governments around the world working to address global warming pollution, dozens of science academies that have endorsed the reality of global warming and urged action, as well as hundreds of millions of people around the world who have joined the movement to promote global warming action.
And, we're all coordinating our activities to push this hoax because…?

Archaeologists unravel WNC's ancient secrets

FRANKLIN — Plastic bags packed with pottery shards fill 5-gallon buckets inside a metal storage container a few hundred yards from the edge of the Macon County Airport runway.
Airplanes throttle for takeoff as archaeologists sift through the remains of an ancient village.
The excavation is North Carolina's largest right now, and it's a fitting example of the friction between accommodating development and protecting history in a growing state with uncharted archaeological value.
Work on the 6-acre site is being done so the airport can extend its runway. The archaeological study is required before construction because government money will be used in the work.
"It is really unusual to get a look at this much area," said lead archaeologist Tasha Benyshek of contractor TRC Solutions. "It tells you a whole lot more about the settlement."
More exploration could be coming to North Carolina, thanks to road-building dollars from the federal economic stimulus plan. But archaeologists say more needs to be done to preserve private land where development threatens to destroy potentially important sites.
Archaeological study is not required on private land unless a grave is discovered.
Pace of development
As one of the nation's top states for population growth, North Carolina stands to lose 2 million acres of crops and forest land to development by 2027, according to conservation advocate Environment North Carolina.
"I don't think we are doing enough to preserve the evidence we need to study slowly," said Thomas R. Whyte, a professor of archaeology at Appalachian State University. "Maybe our efforts should be more toward conservation for future archaeologists rather than sending out the armies to do more research."
The N.C. Office of State Archaeology in Asheville is putting together a list of important studied and unstudied Cherokee town sites in Western North Carolina with the hope of partnering with land trusts on conservation. The list could be competed this year.
In the meantime, private groups and universities continue to uncover the ancient secrets of WNC.
Berry site
In Burke County, archaeologist and students are in their eighth year of unearthing the earliest known European settlement in the interior U.S.
Warren Wilson College started the excavation of the Spanish Fort San Juan under the direction of David Moore, professor of sociology and anthropology.
"The remains here are absolutely unique," he said. "This is a fascinating site. It is well-preserved, and this is the only one of the early forts that has ever been identified."
This summer's four-week field school is made up of 40 people from Warren Wilson and other colleges in the region.
Capt. Juan Pardo's men built the fort in 1567 near the native town of Joara while looking for an overland route to Mexico..
Excavations have uncovered the remains of five burned structures that Moore said he believes are the remains of the fort compound.
Archaeologists on the 12-acre site north of Morganton have also found Spanish pottery, nails, lead balls, copper, fragments of iron and Spanish chain mail armor.
"What we hope to learn is more about the everyday interactions between the Indians and the Spanish and see if there are any clues as to how things might have changed at this village with the Spanish living there," Moore said.
North of the Burke County site, another field school is looking at how life changed for native people after a dramatic event.
New River site
Researchers in Ashe County recently wrapped up four weeks of study at a prehistoric site along the New River, on a terrace along the river's south fork.
Whyte, the ASU archaeologist, held his summer field school there.
It has yielded evidence of human activity dating to 12,000 years ago on up to more modern times.
Students found stone tools normally associated with Paleo-Indian sites, Whyte said.
He was invited to study the 2-acre site by the landowner. The ground has been farmed for years. Whyte expects to spend at least two more summers there. The work is funded by the university and, like the Berry site, relies on students.
He hopes to compare what he learns at the New River site with his work on the upper Watauga River.
Whyte is particularly interested in how climate change affected settlement patterns in the region.
In the upper Watauga River area, he found the little ice age, which started around 1300 and ended at the start of the Industrial Revolution, forced people off land 2,500 feet above sea level and higher. His theory is the cold climate made growing crops unpredictable.
A few hours to the west, a very different type of dig is going on this year, but it, too, is yielding surprising new details about how early people lived in WNC.
Macon Airport
Native people lived on the land that is now the airport just outside Franklin during at least four distinct time periods: 600, 1200, 1600 and in the 18th century, when the location was part of the Cherokee town of Iotla visited by naturalist William Bartram.
The excavation started this spring on the 6-acre site, and so far it has yielded important information about the prehistoric and early historic people who lived there..
Archaeologists with TRC found post holes they said they believe are two palisade fence lines that would have surrounded small villages in AD 1200.
The Early Mississippian time period is important because very little is known about it in WNC. The archaeologists didn't expect to find people were building fortified villages in the area at that time
"It wasn't necessarily the settlement pattern," said lead archaeologist Benyshek.
She said conflict among rival groups could have caused the people living in the Iotla Valley to build the fortification.
The size of the site, which is the largest dig going on now in the region, is also going to be important because it is rare to uncover so much area, Benyshek said.
About a dozen archaeologists are working on the site.
The N.C. Department of Transportation's Aviation Division is spending $535,000 on the initial work, which is scheduled to be completed by September.
Just down the road from the airport, a different approach to learning about ancient people is focusing on a well-known landmark.
Nikwasi Mound
No one has ever excavated the 30-foot-tall Nikwasi Mound in downtown Franklin, and no one will. It is permanently protected.
So researchers are using a ground-penetrating radar machine in a project organized by the nonprofit Native American Cultural Sites Preservation Project to get some idea of what is in inside.
The work, like most archaeology projects in the region, is a partnership, organizer Bill Evans said.
He credits the town of Franklin, which owns the mound, and Western Carolina University, which owns the machine, for making the survey possible.
The Cherokee Preservation Foundation, the Land Trust for the Little Tennessee and Cherokee Tribal Historic Preservation Office have all been involved through funding and support.
Anne Rogers, WCU professor of anthropology who is involved in work with the radar machine, said the mound, more than 1,000 years old, was the site of the council house in an ancient Cherokee town. "This was a very important place in the past," she said.
The data from the cart is entered into a computer at the university to create an image of the mound and features inside. So far, researchers have learned the mound is larger than it appears. Sediment over the years has obscured its sides.
Learning exactly what is more complex.
The effort is one that archaeologists point to as a reason to preserve important sites for future study instead of excavating everything now.
Organizers hope to use the Nikwasi Mound as a test piece to refine the noninvasive method for use at other potentially important sites.
"Archaeology is by its nature destructive," said Dolores Hall, deputy state archaeologist.
The state typically calls for archaeology work on about 10 percent of the projects it reviews each year. Last year it reviewed 2,340 construction projects to determine whether they would affect important sites.
Land conservation and partnerships, like the one between the Land Trust for the Little Tennessee and the Eastern Band in 2007 that protected the Cowee Mound north of Franklin, are good ways to protect the state's archaeological resources.

In 1993 Nancy Pelosi called on Attorney General Reno to conduct an investigation of government misconduct in Peltier's case. Today, she is Speaker of the House, putting her in a position to help see that justice is done in the upcoming parole hearing. Please call or fax Speaker Pelosi and ask her to stand by her words of 16 years ago by writing to the parole commission on Leonard's behalf.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Speaker
House of Represenatatives
Dear Speaker Pelosi, July 1, 2009
As you may recall, you were one of 18 members of the United States Congress who signed an Aug. 4, 1993 letter (attached) to then-Attorney General Janet Reno, calling on her to “order a thorough, independent review of the [Leonard Peltier] case, the allegations of misconduct on the part of the federal government, and the Justice Department's role in the pursuit of this case.” The letter further notes that Mr. Peltier's trial was “tainted,” and that “the federal government has conceded that it does not know and cannot prove who actually fired the fatal shots.”
Unfortunately, Attorney General Reno failed to heed the request, and President Clinton subsequently capitulated to pressure from past and present members of the FBI to refrain from granting Peltier executive clemency. As a result, 16 more years have passed with no new trial, no Justice Department review of federal misconduct, and no investigation by the Congress, of which you are now a leader.
Needless to say, the passage of time has not lessened the injustice of Mr. Peltier's continued incarceration or somehow validated the government's case against him. On the contrary, each year that passes aggravates the emotional wounds inflicted upon Peltier and his family, relatives of the dozens of Pine Ridge Reservation residents whose killings have gone unsolved and in many cases uninvestigated, and millions of indigenous people and their supporters throughout the world. The federal government's refusal to investigate its own role in the violence that permeated Pine Ridge in the 1970s only widens the divide between Native peoples and the people and government of the United States.
You are in a rather unique position to contribute to the healing process, which you can do by writing to the Parole Commission on Peltier's behalf and renewing your call for a federal investigation of the FBI's conduct on Pine Ridge and elsewhere in covert operations against the American Indian Movement and its supporters. We also request that you circulate a letter of support for Mr. Peltier's release among your congressional colleagues for them to sign on to. Peltier's parole hearing will be held July 28; the parole commission says it will accept letters until July 14.
Peltier has now spent 33 years of his life in a federal cell, despite Parole Commission regulations that require mandatory parole after 30 years, in the absence of serious violations of prison rules or a probability of reoffending. By any objective standard, Peltier has been a model prisoner and humanitarian, counseling young prisoners and supporting reservation social programs by donating paintings to charitable organizations, funding scholarships, and facilitating Christmas gift drives for needy children. At 64, Peltier is a great-grandfather who longs to live in peace on his home reservation in close proximity to his family.
As the late Coretta Scott King wrote to President Clinton in 2000, calling for executive clemency, “American Indians have been subjected to a long litany of the most brutal injustices and horrific treatment, and Mr. Peltier's unjust incarceration remains a festering sore that impedes better race relations in America. Surely the time has come to promote healing and a spirit of trust and genuine goodwill toward the Indian peoples of America with an act that serves both compassion and justice.” If King's late, great husband was correct that “justice delayed is justice denied,” then great haste is required to mitigate the accumulated injustices that have been done in this case.
Thank you,
Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee

MILITIAS FORMED TO ATTACK MOHAWKS
MNN. June 25, 2009. The neo-nazi Caledonia Militia was formed in Cayuga Ontario on June 23rd with insignias on their uniforms such as Northern Alliance and Rahowa [Racial Holy War]. Another was formed in Picton. Civilians carrying out military actions against a designated race is a criminal offence.
Akwesasne has been isolated since June 1, 2009. The US and Canada have blocked both bridges to Kawenoke, Cornwall Island. We demanded no guns in our community. This took the steam out of the fake propaganda designating us as militants to justify armed aggression against us.
To take away our civil rights, Canada’s Department of National Defense manual designated us as insurgents. International Global Risk lists us as terrorists, along with Al Qaida, Tamil Tigers and the Taliban. These are unfounded slurs against our valiant people. During WW II we declared war against the Nazis on the steps of the Capitol. Many of our men died defending democracy and Great Turtle Island.
Predator drones that prey on and attack enemy combatants are flying over us and our neighbors. They are being launched from the Fort Drum US military base. They fly three miles up under the civilian US Customs and Border Protection Agency. These civilian and military agencies are under one command.
A major political agenda is being advanced, taking over northern Great Turtle Island to set up a dictatorship.
These two fascist civilian militias openly profess racism and violence against us. They appear to have legal protection. They are financed with lots of money, maybe by the multinationals. They are well equipped with radios, high tech supplies and maybe weapons like pepper spray, tasers or other gadgets.
Half of the US presence In Iraq are private armies or mercenaries under no scrutiny like militias. Former military or private security or independent mercenaries train them to attack unarmed civilians.
Storm troops play a key role in setting up totalitarian power. The regular military is sent out of the country. Mercenaries take over the homeland. Small squads with subordinate groups are organized throughout the country. They come together in large formations. They test experimental tactics and weapons. Incognito mercenaries stand at the back of meetings to protect the militias.
Gary McHale and Doug Fleming, well-known neo-nazis, are setting up these militias in Ontario. www.marchforfreedom.com Politician, Randy Hillier, has a longtime connection with these Red Necks. While aspiring to head the Ontario Conservatives, Hillier constantly calls for launching the army against the Indigenous and taking the law into his own hands. No habeas corpus. No civil rights for us.
US and Canada do not want to make it look like the cops are going after us. Vigilantes do the dirty work. They operate outside the law and create their own. McHale and Fleming plan direct confrontations with us, to shut down our trade and commerce and use force to carry out illegal arrests. Weapons, tasers and threats will be used. We will be held until the cops or military arrive to take us to jail or holding units. They will be trained to go to court to testify against us and get convictions.
Fascist moles seem to have wormed their way into the government, policing, military and the court and prison system.
Fascist right wing hit squads recruit from the unemployed, working class, local agitators, drunks, drug addicts, deadbeat dads, brawlers, KKK, skinheads, ex-police and ex-soldiers. The court and prison systems provide them with gangsters and criminals. They are especially interested in those who hate us and want to physically hurt us. They’re losers who want to be winners. To get around any bans, 14 to 18 year olds can attack people without being charged as adults.
Militias see themselves as the ground forces that create and attack scapegoats. These goons hope to grow to thousands and maybe more. They could outnumber the regular army and police forces. They hope to become big shots in the big new order that will rule the world for a thousand years! The politicians think they can control the militia and the mobs. Eventually the psychopaths will step in like the SS that surrounded their messianic leader, Adolph Hitler.
To continue their bogus war on terror, the international war thugs have to destroy democracy where everyone is equal and has a voice. Our constitution, the Great Law of Peace, is the model for the US Constitution. The Two Row Wampum international relationship comes from our constitution. We were the first nation to take the Great Law and we intend to uphold constitutional law.
We condemn these uprisings by these foreign interests who are violating the harmonious relationships we developed through treaties, agreements and negotiated covenants. We refuse to be anyone’s victims. We Indigenous People are one and we stand together!

PEACE CARAVAN HEADS FOR AKWESASNE
MNN. June 28, 2009. To support the Mohawks of Akwesasne who refuse to allow the border guards to carry guns at the CBSA check point, a Peace Caravan will be arriving on Wednesay, June 30. It will start in Six Nations and head east on the 401 to the Cornwall exit. The Six Nations police will be escorting the caravan over the International Bridge to Kahwenoke, Cornwall Island, to the tent site next to the former Canada Customs at approx. 3pm. There may be over 200 cars plus 4 buses. Hundreds of supporters are expected. Many are arriving on Tues. June 29th. All are welcome to stay for July 1st to hear speakers and take part in socials.
For those coming from the US side or making donations, they may go to or cross over from Loran Thompson’s Dock or Mac’s Marina at the old church in St. Regis, off Highway 37 to Cornwall Island.
Bring your camping gear.
NEEDED: water, food and money. Funds would be greatly appreciated: Go to www.akwesasnewomensfire.com and donate online. For donations by check or money order please send to: Akwesasne Womens Fire, 936 Island Rd, Akwesasne ON K6H 5R7

NOTE: Please disregard the unsigned June 27th press release from the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne which tried to redirect supporters to Ottawa. [613-936-1548 bwhite@akwesasne.ca]. Health Canada also gave a dire warning for Indigenous communities to stay away from large social gatherings to stop the spread of swine flu. Former Chief Nona Benedict responded: “Does this mean July 1 Fireworks are canceled, as well as all future lacrosse games at the arena and the Akwesasne Pow-wow?”
Canada is reviving the old tactic of disinformation, intimidation and threats. We are in the right. We don’t want guns! This is a time to negotiate from a position of strength, not fear or weakness. We can’t have appeasers make deals behind our backs. If we start giving away piecemeal, eventually we will wind up with nothing.
The Mohawks are obviously not going to break the peace that has pervaded the situation from the beginning to now. The Peacemaker Dekanawida and our ancestors will be proud of the message of peace that we have maintained. If anybody causes trouble, it will be outside agitators, police forces, military, undercover agents and professional trouble makers. We won’t fall for it. We will protect each other.
We thank everybody for supporting us.

WANNABE CONFEDERACY CHIEF FORMS ALLIANCE WITH FRENCH
MNN. June 30, 2009. A co-called confederacy chief from the Up-the-Hill Longhouse in Kahnawake will be canoeing down the St. Lawrence River to Quebec City to celebrate Canada Day on July 1. They are going to plant a tree of peace. At the same time, a delegation of real Haudenosaunee chiefs is going to Akwesasne to discuss the true meaning of the Two Row Wampum.
A dubious foreign peace mission has appeared on the scene. They put out a video of the blessing by this Chief. The spectacle was in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Montreal on June 28th 2009. Priests, actors dressed as voyageurs and Indians took part. They are purporting that the Two Row Wampum agreement is going to transfer allegiances of the Mohawk from the British to the European community.
They are forming an alliance with the French, the longtime enemies of the Iroquois ever since Champlain shot our Rotiyaner the first time he met them. The real Confederacy maintains our traditional nation-to-nation relationship with the Dutch and British.
There is only one Tree of Peace planted in Onondaga near Syracuse where the original chairman of the Confederacy, Atotarho, was installed. This group appears to want to transfer the head of the Confederacy to Quebec City!
The Two Row Wampum, or Guswentha, consists of two rows of purple wampum beads on a background of white beads. This signifies the paths of the Haudenosaunee and that of our friends and allies. We agreed to travel on parallel paths never touching. It was a declaration of peaceful co-existence between us.
Guswentha was here from the beginning, long before the coming of any foreigners to this land. This concept of non-interference was unknown to the newcomers. We still promote this idea. The League of Nations, the UN and all international agreements and pacts are based on the Guswentha. The European community has not respected this relationship so that they can continue to steal and commit acts of genocide against is. If they complied, they would have to correct the wrongs.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper apologizing to us for the residential school abuse and killings from one side of his face does not correct or erase the wrongs committed in the past, present and what is planned for the future.
The first two row agreement was with the Dutch government in 1613 symbolized by our belt and the hemp. With the French it was the iron chain. With the British it was the Silver Covenant Chain. With the US it was the gold chain which is seen on uniforms and other symbols.
The Five Nations Haudenosaunee allied with the British and defeated the French. We pushed back the US from taking over the northern part of Great Turtle Island.
It looks like this group wants to symbolically change this arrangement by transferring this allegiance of the Iroquois over to the European religious community [Catholic]. All Haudenosaunee and our allies, which includes most of the Indigenous Nations of Great Turtle Island, must agree to any change. Nobody has been consulted. Do they think they will get away with this travesty as they use video on the internet to propagandize their farce?
France has always tried to take over Great Turtle Island. They think they have to come in through Quebec and Canada and then into the US. They know they have to make arrangements with the Confederacy.
The Up-the-Hill group doesn’t seem to learn from history. When the battle was over, all the Ongwehonwe who allied themselves with the Europeans were always rewarded with genocide. They are entering an illegal agreement with another foreign entity. They do not have that authority.
In the 1980s the Haudenosaunee Land Rights Committee made a presentation to the Quebec government on our position. A recital was done of the first three wampum strings to clear the eyes, ears and throat. Then a presentation was made on the Two Row Wampum and the Circle of 50 Chiefs.
The Quebec cabinet asked if we would form an alliance with the Separatists. They knew they needed our permission. We asked them whether they would recognize and respect us as the original sovereign people of this land. No answer was given. They wanted our support to legitimize their separation from Canada and become a pawn in the hands of the European community. Once they became independent, they would treat us as badly as the English and US. Our allegiance is not to the French, English or US. We have a friendship with them that we want to keep. Any decision we make must be in the best interests of all our people.
One year ago the German Pope came to Great Turtle Island, kissed the ground and claimed it for Europe. The Up-the-Hill and French alliance ceremony done at the main Catholic Church in Montreal symbolizes an agreement with an ecclesiastical hierarchy which is centered in Rome. The Roman Catholic Church has dominated the monarchies and governments of Europe for over 1000 years. This invalid agreement would be between a would-be Confederacy chief and the ecclesiastics of Europe.
A valid agreement is between the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and other sovereign nations. They were made on a secular political basis, between sovereign states that represent the people. Any agreement with a church or religious organization is not binding or enforceable. It violates the Great Law where no religion governs the Haudenosaunee.
This appears to be the European community trying to furthering their new world order agenda. We suspect that the Jesuits and their European backers have influenced this phony agreement. It is not legitimate because the true Confederacy, the Haudenosaunee and the Indigenous are not involved. This is a desperate attempt to misrepresent and rob all of us.

UPDATE/VIDEO: AKWESASNE WOMENS FIRE NEEDS HELP TO STOP GUNS
MNN. July 1, 2009. On Monday June 1st 2009 the Canadian Border Service Agency was to take up arms at the border crossing in the middle of Akwesasne of Mohawk Nation Territory. The people protested. At 11:30 pm on May 31st the CBSA guards abandoned their post and left. Since then, we have peacefully camped on the grounds next to the facility. This is the first video on the ongoing events in the camp and the people.
http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=cQQNz0FKCKI
No band councilors showed up. They have been intimidated by the government, are afraid and caved in. It’s a powerful grassroots Peoples movement with no support from any government.
NEEDED: Funds would be greatly appreciated to keep up our tents: Please go to www.akwesasnewomensfire.com and donate online. For donations by check or money order please send to: Akwesasne Womens Fire, 936 Island Rd, Akwesasne ON K6H 5R7
Urgently needed are life jackets for the crossings and fuel for the boats. Your donations are appreciated of food, can goods, general supplies, non-perishable food, flashlights and batteries, lanterns, coal oil lamps, bug spray or zapper, regular toiletries – toilet paper, paper towels, soap, laundry, etc.
For further information please contact: Rosemarie White 613-933-8784; Veronica Cook; 915-886-0210; Neddy Thompson 613-577-4647; and Nona Benedict 613-551-5421 (c) 613-938-8145 (h) nonabena@yahoo.com
The caravan was greeted by an emotional welcoming ceremony and social. The people were overwhelmed by the sight of the caravan approaching over the International Bridge onto Kawenoke on Cornwall Island. We will keep it peaceful. The Customs Building is being maintained. Please send your messages of support to nonabena@yahoo.com
Please keep supporting us. The Chocktaw Nation of Oklahoma is coming to bring supplies and to meet the people.
Two Indigenous men hitchhiked from Vancouver. Jayson Fleury said that we are being eliminated by guns. We came to support our brothers and sisters to stop the genocide of our people. His sister ended up as one of Picton’s victims on the farm where dozens of our women were murdered. We will never accept outsiders carrying guns in their midst.
Old videos of gunfire 20 years ago are being used as part of the training of the CBSA that work on the island, completely ignoring the peace that has since prevailed. They probably watch old films where a cowboy shoots one bullet and knocks a whole tribe off their horses. The blue-eyed fat Indians with Brooklyn accents were played by Italians and others. Prejudice is being promoted by showing these kind of old movies to scare the CBSA.

Why Hitler Loved America
Why Hitler Loved America
HOW THE U.S.A's slaughter of Indians and immigration policies inspired him.
In Hitler's view, the US had become a major power by 'ethnic cleansing' of the native inhabitants: he saw clearly that the US itself, which poses as a nation state, is in fact an Empire. It's just that the anninhilation of the indigenous inhabitants was so complete that we don't see the US as an Empire.
As Finkelstein has pointed out, Hitler's 'push for the East' was explicitly inspired by the American setttlers 'push for the West'. As Adam Tooze reveals in his superb Wages of Destruction, it's true that Hitler compared the Russians to Indians, but it's ALSO true that he compared them to AMERICAN Indians. As the Indians had been pushed off their lands and herded off to reservations, so the Russians (and Poles) would be herded off to super-concentration camps: i.e. neo-reservations, where, Hitler hoped, their numbers would be 'thinned' to the extent that Germans could easily rule them while using them as cheap labour.

Hitler's "Inspiration"
"Hitler and His Secret Partners":
(Department of Indian Affairs Superintendent D.C. Scott to B.C. Indian Agent-General Major D. McKay, DIA Archives, RG 10 series). April 12, 1910
"It is readily acknowledged that Indian children lose their natural resistance to illness by habitating so closely in these schools, and that they die at a much higher rate than in their villages. But this alone does not justify a change in the policy of this Department, which is geared towards the FINAL SOLUTION OF OUR INDIAN PROBLEM."
Hitler drew another example of mass murder from American history. Since his youth he had been obsessed with the Wild West stories of Karl May. He viewed the fighting between cowboys and Indians in racial terms. In many of his speeches he referred with admiration to the victory of the white race in settling the American continent and driving out the inferior peoples, the Indians. With great fascination he listened to stories, which some of his associates who had been in America told him about the massacres of the Indians by the U.S. Calvary.
He was very interested in the way the Indian population had rapidly declined due to epidemics and starvation when the United States government forced them to live on the reservations. He thought the American government's forced migrations of the Indians over great distances to barren reservation land was a deliberate policy of extermination. Just how much Hitler took from the American example of the destruction of the Indian nations is hard to say; however, frightening parallels can be drawn. For some time Hitler considered deporting the Jews to a large 'reservation' in the Lubin area where their numbers would be reduced through starvation and disease. (p. 273-274).
Hitler frequently referred to the Russians as 'Redskins'.
