Ms. Robinson is an enrolled member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. She is also Eastern Shoshone, Pawnee, and Sioux. She was born and raised on the Wind River Reservation in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. Before transferring to the University of Nevada in 2009, she attended Sheridan College. In her first year as the Wolfpack’s guard, she was named the Western Athletic Conference’s (WAC’s) Newcomer of the Year and the first-team All-WAC last year. In the 2010 and 2011 season, Ms. Robinson served as co-captain. At the end of the season, she was ranked ninth in the nation for scoring. She again made the All-WAC first-team and named to the WAC All-Tournament Team. She was one of five finalists for the Sullivan Award, an annual award that goes to the nation’s top amateur athlete. Ms. Robinson was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury and traded to the Connecticut Sun earlier this year. She now plays for the Hapoel Holon in Israel’s Premier League. Mr. Begay was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He attended Stanford University on a scholarship, and earned a B.S. in Economics. While at Stanford, he earned All-American Honors three times. During his college golfing career, he led his team to a National Championship. Since then, Mr. Begay has gone on to win four PGA Tour tournaments. In 2005, Mr. Begay founded The Notah Begay III Foundation, which works to battle obesity and diabetes in Native American youth. He also owns a golf course development firm, which he uses to help Native communities develop their own golf courses. Mr. Hensley was born into an Inupiat family in Kotzebue, Alaska. He attended a BIA boarding school in Knoxville, Tennessee. After attending several colleges, Mr. Hensley transferred to George Washington University. He earned his degree in 1966, the same year he helped found the Northwest Alaska Native Association (NANA) and AFN. Under Mr. Hensley’s leadership, AFN went on to lobby Congress to pass the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. This measure recognized Alaska Native rights to forty-four million acres of land and provided $1 billion to organize thirteen Native corporations to manage Native resources. In 1966, Mr. Hensley also was elected into the Alaska State Legislature as a representative. Four years later, he became a state senator. He focused on many issues, including the fact that few villages had access to electricity. He worked to provide the rural villages with this important resource. Mr. Hensley left office in 1974, but returned for two years in 1986.
