Hate group webcast reminder

Hate group webcast reminder

Southern Poverty Law Center

Feb. 28, 2011

Dear friend,
SPLC President Richard Cohen and SPLC's

Intelligence Project Director Mark Potok invite

you to join them for a live webcast — a 30-minute

audio chat — to discuss our recently released

Year in Hate and Extremism report.

Far-right politicians and media figures continue

to pour fuel on the fire with outrageous conspiracy

theories and demonizing propaganda about those

who disagree with them.

The number of active hate groups in the United

States topped 1,000 for the first time and the

antigovernment "Patriot" movement expanded

dramatically for the second straight year as the

radical right showed continued explosive growth

in 2010.

Richard and Mark will accept questions before

and during the 30-minute audio webcast.

and you will

receive a confirmation e-mail with a link to sign

into the webcast.

This year's list also includes 17 anti-gay groups,

such as the Family Research Council, which have

been listed because of their propagation of known

falsehoods—claims about LGBT people that have

been thoroughly discredited by scientific authorities

—and repeated, groundless name-calling. Viewing

homosexuality as unbiblical does not qualify organizations

for listing as hate groups.

Anti-Muslim hate groups—a relatively new phenomenon

in the United States—are poised for growth as fear

mongers continue to claim that Shariah law is

surreptitiously replacing the American legal system.

We look forward to your participation in the live chat.
