Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith was a “celebrity runner” in last weekend’s 33rd Annual Tulsa Run. Chief Smith and hundreds of Cherokee citizens participated in the run, emphasizing this years’ initiative: ”Happy, Healthy People.” You can see the slide show featuring many of the participants in the “Check It Out” section of the Cherokee Nation website at www.cherokee.org.

Tuesday, November 2 is Election Day. It’s important that you cast your vote. The 2010 Cherokee Nation Voters Guide is still available for some last-minute research on the candidates in many Oklahoma elections. You can see it in the “Check It Out” section of the Cherokee Nation website: www.cherokee.org.

The Cherokee Nation is proud to host the Cherokee Culture Days November 2-4 in the tribal council chambers of the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex just south of Tahlequah, Ok. The Cherokee Nation is offering an entertaining and educational experience through storytelling and other cultural activities. Watch the Drum Awards on a Live Web-Stream: 11/1/2010

The Drum Awards is proud to announce that its inaugural awards event will be streamed “LIVE” online at 7 pm (CT) on November 1, 2010 via the internet. Viewers can watch as participants from around the country gather for this unique and groundbreaking event taking place at the Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, Okla.

Veterans celebration on tap at Cherokee Nation : 11/1/2010

Area veterans and their family and friends are invited to Cherokee Nation’s annual Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010. The event will take place at the Warrior’s Memorial located east of the main tribal complex building from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Cherokee Nation Hastings Hospital Breaks Ground on Expansion Projects: 10/28/2010 4:34:00 PM

The Cherokee Nation held a groundbreaking ceremony this week at the tribe’s
W. W. Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah in recognition of several expansion projects that will total more than $7 million and provide an additional 27,000 square feet of new space. The expansion also includes a remodeling project in 15,000 square feet of existing space. The added space will allow for the expansion of the emergency room, orthopedics and optometry, as well as the creation of an urgent care area.

Cherokee Nation works with State, Local Officials to Bring 40 New Jobs to Stilwell: 10/28/2010

Schwan’s Global Supply Chain, Inc., the manufacturing and logistics arm of The Schwan Food Company, announced last week that it is adding a new frozen-food production line at its manufacturing facility located in Stilwell, Okla. The line, which will be built this fall, will add approximately 40 new jobs at the plant initially, with the possibility of adding more jobs in the future.

Cherokee Nation Chief Ready for Tulsa Run: 10/27/2010

After several months of training and nearly a dozen 5K races, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith is ready to tackle the upcoming 15K Tulsa Run to be held this Saturday in Tulsa. “I’m looking forward to the run. The 5K runs have been going well and I ran 10 miles a couple of weeks ago. I can tell a difference from the first race in Stilwell to the last race I ran,” Smith said.

Two Cherokee Nation Offices Awarded Department of Justice Grants: 10/27/2010

The Cherokee Nation has been awarded more than $1.3 million in grants from the Department of Justice through the Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation grant process. The Cherokee Nation Marshal Service and the Cherokee Nation Attorney General’s office were each awarded grants which will be used to improve tribal public safety and criminal justice systems.

District Childrens Choir Program Seeks Participants: 10/26/2010

The Cherokee Nation is inviting young Cherokee students to participate in the tribe’s recently developed Cherokee District Children’s Choir program. The district choirs are a way to localize participation by Cherokee children in grades two through six in choirs.

Cherokee Nation Hosting Salina Flu Vaccine Clinic: 10/25/2010 9:46:00 AM

The Cherokee Nation will be offering a free flu shot drive-thru clinic for adults on Thursday, Oct. 28 at the tribe’s Amo Health Center, located at 900 North Owen Walters Blvd. in Salina. The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. until noon while the supply lasts.
