Just Peace
Mondays, 6pm - 7pm EST ----- WRFG 89.3 FM

Today on Just Peace, we will interview attorney Jeffrey Haas, author of The Assassination of Fred Hampton: How the Chicago Police Murdered a Black Panther (2010 Lawrence Hill Books). In the book Haas recounts the events leading up to and after the assassination of Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton in Chicago on December 4, 1969 and about the government cover-up of the assassination. Attorney Haas has spent his career working for justice. In 1969 he and three other lawyers set up the People’s Law Office, whose clients included the Black Panthers, SDS, and other political activists. He went on to handle cases involving prisoners’ rights, police torture, and the wrongfully accused.

Also on the show will be Bruce Dixon. Dixon was a member of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party in 1969 and 1970, during the period covered by the book, and knew Fred Hampton and some of the other persons mentioned in it. After the Black Panther Party he was a community organizer and a political consultant, among other things in Chicago. He currently resides in Marietta and is managing editor of Black Agenda Report at
