There are just a few reminders for this week. The Cherokee Nation is looking for volunteers to construct a new 7,700 square feet Veteran’s Center. Cherokee Nation is providing the materials and together Cherokees and other area residents will physically build it, providing a great opportunity to give back to veterans a small measure of what they have given to each of us. Cherokee Nation to host 7th Annual Fall Festival in Tahlequah and Salina: 10/22/2009

As fall festivities arise and communities begin to gather, the Cherokee Nation will host its 7th Annual Fall Festival/Health and Safety Fair in two area communities. In Salina, the festival will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 100 S. Ross St., across from the high school gymnasium. In Tahlequah, the event will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the James Danielson Children’s Village, located two miles south of the Cherokee Nation tribal complex on Hwy. 62.

Cherokee Nation Talking Leaves Job Corps Students Spend Day with Oklahoma Congressmen in Washington, D.C.: 10/21/2009 2:41:00 PM

Recently, students of the Cherokee Nation Talking Leaves Job Corps were given the opportunity to work alongside some Oklahoma Congressmen on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., in celebration of Job Corps’ 45th anniversary.


Cherokee Nation to Host Poverty Workshop for Educators: 10/21/2009

The Cherokee Nation will host a two-day workshop in November designed to educate school personnel about working with students that live in poverty. The workshop will take place at the Heart O’ Hills Camp and Conference Center near Welling on Nov. 12 -13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.

Sequoyah’s Football Homecoming Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23: 10/20/2009 4:23:00 PM

Sequoyah Schools’ football homecoming will be Friday, October 23. The coronation ceremony will begin at 6:50 p.m., immediately preceding the football game against Kansas.

Sequoyah Schools Fall Youth Cheer Clinic Postponed: 10/19/2009 9:07:00 AM

The Sequoyah Schools’ cheerleaders have postponed their fall youth cheer clinic until October 27-29. The clinic will be held from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. for children ages 4 to 12 in the lower level of The Place Where They Play. Cheer clinic participants will learn a cheer, chant and dance to perform at half-time of the Sequoyah football game on October 30.

**** Cultural Tidbits ****

The Cherokee Supreme Court building was also home to the Cherokee Advocate. It is the oldest public building in what is now the state of Oklahoma.
