In this week's edition, the Cherokee Nation Businesses will soon reopen the tribe’s landfill and expectations are high it will be operated better. Nearly two years ago the landfill was closed because the company operating it – Indian Country Investments – couldn’t comply with CN environmental regulations.
In cultural news, a new exhibition featuring artwork focused on the Cherokee syllabary opened May 22 at the Cherokee Heritage Center. Artists created a visual narrative of the Cherokee language using a different character from the Cherokee syllabary.
In health news, about 80 kids ages 9 to 12 participated in the Cherokee Nation Healthy Nation Summer Youth Residential Camp in Welling, Okla. Camp activities included Cherokee cultural activities, swimming and snake, tobacco, nutrition and diabetes awareness activities. Another fitness camp will be held July 5-9 in Bartlesville for children living in that area.
